About the event

This camp is for anyone who wants to improve their agility handling and skills with their dogs! With workshops ranging from novice to advanced, we have something for everyone who wants to achieve more independence, distance and find ways to get ahead on course. Instructors and world team members Melanie Miller and Stefanie Rainer will both teach a variety of workshops during the week geared towards skills like:

  • Blind crosses
  • Independent backsides
  • Serps and threadles
  • Send and Go
  • Wicked Weaves
  • Fancy Foundations
  • Wrap vs. Slice
  • Send commitment

A working spot includes 4 workshops during the week plus the coursework session on Thursday afternoon and unlimited auditing.

Audit spots may audit any sessions they'd like, with the expectation that they'll be helping bar set for the working spots.

Attendees are welcome to attend a dinner on Wednesday night for an extra $35. Get the chance to hang out with Melanie and Stefanie in a casual environment and pick their brains about all things agility and world teams!

About the Instructors:

Melanie Miller:

Melanie has a unique approach to her instruction, combining several key concepts:

-High motivation for all dogs to maximize drive and potential

-High reinforcement for all handlers to keep the game fun

-Focus on delivering information as early as possible to the dog through timely handling and skill proficiency

-A holistic view of all the components required, including a solid mental game, fitness of handler and dog, and keeping all elements in balance.

Melanie has been on multiple EO, IFCS, and WAO World Teams with multiple dogs and has several young, upcoming dogs preparing for overseas endeavors. She regularly competes in the top levels of AKC and UKI. In addition, Melanie has also used her passion for the sport to champion improvements in safety for the sport plus availability of the new ISC program offered by AKC.

Her handling is always aimed at giving the dog the earliest possible information, while keeping the handler ahead to show clear, effective cues. She also recognizes that each dog and handler team is unique, and works to find the best possible solution for that team. She believes that each team’s potential is unlimited and she works to give a clear plan for the next most critical steps to help that team reach their full potential.

Stefanie Rainer:

Stefanie Rainer is an accomplished agility handler and teacher, and an accredited judge for AKC and UKI. She’s earned titles on breeds including Papillon, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Border Collies, and English Cocker Spaniel. Each of Stefanie’s dogs has taken her across the country competing in regional and national events and earning her top placements. Most notably, Stefanie and her rescue Border Collie, Spree, were 3-time AKC/USA European Open large dog team  in 2012-2014.

In 2021 Stefanie and her Border Collie, Believe, were named as alternates to the USA World Agility Open (WAO) team. In the past year Stef and Believe have continued to soar and achieve new success including: 2022 AKC National Agility Championship 20” Vice Champions, 2022 Moravia Open Large Dog Champion, and members of both the 2023 USA WAO and European Open teams.

Stefanie has developed her own style of teaching. She doesn’t believe in any one system, rather she adjusts to optimally meet the needs of the team because not all dogs and people learn the same way. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and love of the game with her students to help both human and canine athlete reach their full potential.

Registration will open on February 24th at 8am. Working spots will provide their preference for workshop sessions, but sessions will not be assigned until attendance is full and preferences can be evaluated. Working spots are limited. Auditing spots are unlimited.
